This week, I've spent a considerable amount of time learning about different leadership styles, particularly the collaborative leader. One key takeaway from my research is that no leadership style is inherently better than another. Rather, the most effective leaders possess qualities from multiple leadership styles and adapt their approach based on the needs of their team and objectives.

I feel that I relate most closely with the strategic and collaborative leadership styles.

Strategic vs. Collaborative Leadership

The Strategic Leader

A strategic leader is someone with a clear vision who inspires others to embrace that vision through effective communication and structured planning. Their leadership style includes:

  • Effectively communicating their vision and the reasoning behind it.

  • Creating a detailed plan of action with clear steps.

  • Establishing daily objectives and manageable tasks to achieve long-term goals.

  • Staying focused on the vision despite challenges.

  • Maximizing available resources to drive progress.

  • Building a collaborative team based on individual strengths.

(Turley, n.d.)

The Collaborative Leader

A collaborative leader, on the other hand, prioritizes stakeholder involvement in decision-making processes. This leadership style is particularly effective in fostering engagement and cooperation among team members. Key characteristics include:

  • Co-creating goals and objectives with team input.

  • Establishing open and transparent communication.

  • Ensuring that all stakeholders have a voice in the decision-making process.

Implementing Leadership Skills in Technology Integration

Incorporating leadership skills when introducing new technology in the workplace is crucial for a smooth transition, particularly for those who may be hesitant about adopting new tools. While I have a clear vision for integrating AI tools into my colleagues' workflows, I recognize that a collaborative approach will yield better results.

To ensure effective implementation, I plan to:

  • Gather input from my colleagues regarding their current understanding of AI, their learning needs, and how they envision AI enhancing their work.

  • Involve team members in the planning phase to identify knowledge gaps and areas requiring additional support.

  • Develop a tailored training and implementation strategy that aligns with my colleagues’ needs and concerns.

  • Provide ongoing support and encourage feedback to refine the process over time.

Implementing Leadership Skills in Technology Integration

Research by Jones (2024) highlights the role of leadership in technology adoption, stating that effective leaders help drive user adoption by setting a clear vision, communicating the benefits of new technology, and fostering a culture of innovation. Jones emphasizes that successful technology implementation requires leaders to provide the necessary training and support while empowering employees to experiment with and embrace new tools. Additionally, leaders who prioritize change management and continuous learning create a more adaptable workforce capable of thriving in the digital age.
